February 29, 2008

I am now officially...

...gone.

Cake.

If anybody else tells me that the cake is a lie, I will cut off their left ear. It is no longer funny.

Cruise.

Well, on Saturday, I'm off for a cruise. That means taking a break from my super-secret coding project, you all, and the general public altogether. Will Lane survive? We'll see in a week from Saturday.

(My money's on no: mainly because my money can't be on anything on the cruise. Damn gambling rules.)

Updates.

So, I've noticed increased productivity in some of the work I'm supposed to be doing. Why's this? Because Ubuntu Linux makes computing an utter delight. I'm ecstatic to open, close, and drag windows just to see their translucency and 3D effects. I love rebooting for the sounds, splash screen, and command lines in GRUB. I love every aspect of my new operating system, and I haven't yet found something I can't do on XP. CS3, sure, but I have Wine. :P

Amazing.

(I also LOVE the apt-get function.)

Operation Ubuntu: success.

Title speaks for itself. Finally booted it natively and from the hard drive, despite my machine's dislike of anything other than XP. Worked the kernel parameters in GRUB a bit, and it booted quietly and perfectly. Concerned about a few lag issues, but that should be worked out quite soon.

(Edit: Ubuntu showed me an ATI driver that I hadn't installed. I'm now running smoother than a well-done analogy.)

(Edit II: I opened up a terminal window and installed XGL, so transparency, shadows, and a lot of other cool effects are supported. Like paper-flipping window drags.)

Ubuntu

Well, all, I've done it. I'm on Ubuntu Linux Live, and I'm getting ready to install. This is probably going to be better than XP. I'll keep you posted. (And I really will this time!)

Drives.

Yesterday, I figured out why none of my Linux/OSX86 DVDs are booting...my broken CD drive is hooked up to the BIOS. I'll promptly get that fixed up for you. (And I didn't lie when I said I'd be posting from Safari - Windows Beta. :P)
